Non-employing businesses and businesses with one to four employees totalled 16,579, or 85.7% of the 2025 Greater Hobart count. The employment bands describe business structure, not the number of workers or the capacity of an individual firm.
There were 10,993 businesses in the two turnover bands below $200,000, equal to 56.9% of the published total. Turnover does not reveal profit, marketing budget, buying intent or channel preference.
The five largest industries by business count totalled 11,663 businesses, or 60.3%. Construction led at 3,526, followed by professional, scientific and technical services at 2,431. Industry count is not revenue, employment or search demand.
Keep population, age and jobs in context
Greater Hobart's estimated resident population reached 255,250 at 30 June 2025, up 542 people or 0.2% over the year. Its median age was 39.7 years in 2025.

Greater Hobart GCCSA is a functional capital city region. It is not the City of Hobart local government area or Tasmania as a whole. Multi-location businesses are assigned to one geography, and regional values can be revised or confidentialised.
